River Description

Paine is a very small tributary of Richland Creek outside Dayton, Tennessee. The put-in can be a little tricky, but is not that hard, with a topo map. The put-in is on the way for the put-in for Piney River outside Spring City, Tennessee. We took Liberty Hill Road, (the locals call it Insurance Bluff Road). Once you are on top the mountain, slow down, there will be a side dirt road on the left, coming from Dayton. Take it, drive down the road or walk. After 1/4" mile(?) if you haven't come to a big ditch, you took the wrong road.

Here is a picture of the put-in from Liberty Hill Road.

I love the tires beside the "no dumping sign"

The run is your typical ditch run, but it can be a lot of fun and is better than sitting on the couch. The quality of the run degrades at the end when you are nearing Richland. From there is a hike fest, but you are so close to the car, it's not epic. With the Southern Pine Bug eating killing large stands of pines on the mountain, I would be very paranoid about down wood. The stream is very small, and fast so boater beware.
