River Description

Basin Creek is a lesson in Geology and Geography.

First is trying to find it, the best thing to do is to use Hwy US 70 Outside of Crossville Tennessee. This makes for a longer day but, it will help you out in two ways.

First it will tell you if you have enough water...Second of all you will find the creek instead of trying to bushwhack thru thick laurel .Use the highway for a put-in.

Basin cuts thru many different layers of rock. Keep looking up you will get to enjoy some interesting rock as it tries to cut down to the valley floor.

Basin starts off with a hell-uv of a bang, which the first descent party consisting of Andy Bridge, Mike "Louie" Lewis and Tom Windham found out on. It starts off with slides that are pretty non-stop, start into the big 30 footer slide. Don't run it blind like the first party did.

From there, its a beat-n-bang run from then on. Manky for sure , but also trashy due nature of the bedrock you are cutting thru. Then onto the valley and paddle out which consists of Class III boogie water.

This run for the most part isn't recommended, its just not got the quantity or the quality.

***Warning label***

Whitewater paddling is VERY Dangerous, and you should get instruction before ever attempting even to paddle flatwater. One of contributors to this web site has personally helped bury 3 kayaking friends, this isn't a joke. Whitewater paddling can ruin your life through accidents and can effect your family and friends throughout a lifetime.

The information on this page is incomplete, inaccurate, and very unreliable.   Use with caution.  Whitewater paddling is a dangerous sport and the information here is not a substitute for actual knowledge and skill.  The authors are not liable for your actions. Go ahead and kill yourself if you want to, but don't blame others for you actions and decisions that you will make on and off the river.
