Avg Gradient 70 fpm

Max Gradient 100 fpm

 Hwy 68(Grandview)Possum Trot Road

Class III.0  With a lot of Class II

River Description:From Kemper Begley..thank you Kemper!

.

Put-in:  Highway 68 bridge (I think there is a trail on the downstream river right side of the bridge)

Takeout:  Possum Trot bridge or Black Creek Road or Highway 27 bridge

Level:  should be at least 2.5 on the Highway 27 bridge pillar gauge for a low run

I have only paddled Upper White’s Creek one time and it was years ago, so this information is sketchy at best.

Upper White’s Creek is definitely worth doing, especially if you are looking for rapids that are class III and below. It would be best to have at least 3 feet on the Highway 27 bridge gauge, but I think I ran it at 2.5 feet. Be prepared for wood soon after the put-in. As you can see from the photo of the put-in, the creek is narrow at the top and easily spanned by logs. I think we portaged at least 3 logs during our run. After some easy pool/drop rapids and boogie water, the creek gets wider and strainers are less of a problem.

The water quality seemed visually good. The scenery is pretty good. I don’t remember seeing a lot of settlement on the creek banks. We saw two Bald Eagles during our trip.

I remember an excellent low angle surf hole not far above Possum Trot Bridge.

Paddlers can take out at Possum Trot Bridge, but since Upper White’s Creek is less than 5 miles long, most paddlers will want to continue on to Highway 27 Bridge and experience the rest of White’s Creek. The play spots and easy rapids only get better from here! Enjoy!
