Logging road off Highway 8/111 to Near Highway 127

Class III.7
8.4+/- Miles

Okay first things first, the shuttle is not for a car you care about  (my 2 cents) Every time I was there it was rutted beyond belief. It loves low to the ground VW'S by the way. Rednecks abound here and your car is fresh meat. So leave nothing of value.

The Gage:

Big Brush has a ladder on it downstream of the put-in. at 1.3 rungs on the metal ladder is a good level.

Also check the following:

Sequatchie at Dunlap 2500, Caney 1.5, Emory 7000.is good lower level during a good water table event...I'll explain later.

NOTE:

The $%$$^^& about Big Brush, it's a Sequatchie Valley run and you can get skunked! Go to the take-out first to see if it has water. By that I mean good water and not just low. About a 1/2-1/4 mile upstream of the take-out is a sink hole, that could cause you to hike more than you want. Once you get flow the sink hole fills up and you wondered what the big deal about having good water is all about.

If you draw a bad hand and get skunked , the Caney Fork will be running outside Crossville Tennessee.

The Put-in. (Keep going right you can't miss it!..ummm yeha right)

Look on page 24 of your Tennessee Gazetteer, find State Hwy 8, the look for a road on the right named  McCarver-Loop Road, TURN HERE and follow it out, then you come to a fork in the road, go right, when you see a big gravel road on the right, you guessed it...go right...now pray you don't lose a muffler...follow this out to the creek. Keep looking at the your Gazetteer...it seems you are never going to get there.

The take-out.

You can look at your trusted Gazetteer but and easy way to know where you are at is on Hwy 8, BEFORE Little Brush you turn right, heading towards Big Brush. Once parked there, please go talk to the nice landowners. The late Ron Stewart , opened this opportunity with these nice people and we need to keep the friendship up.

Turn off Hwy 111 Notice the Sunoco Station and McCarver Loop Sign

Once down the road a bit...you will see this fork in the road

Once down the dirt road...you come to a fork in the road...go right

River Description:

To me the run is very similar to North Chick if you take out North Chick Falls, the rest of the run, its a run of its own it has slots move that are very unique .Nothing beyond scary, and the run is suitable for a big group , due to it being a fairly big sized watershed/creek.

The hardest rapid has a tree marked with XX you can miss it on river left, most walk this due to it's mank but it has been run .

The good parts of the run are big boulder slots, kinda reminds me of Daddy's Creek on steroids.

The one rapid that really stands out, right after XX rapid is a cool , funny water , hope I don't flip slot-drop rapid. It's tiny in the beginning and opens up big enough to drive a pick-up though it. It's much harder than it looks and is good practice for running "When in doubt" on Miller Creek in Alabama. Once past this, it turns into the North Chick's cousin and you paddle to the car

This is your put-in bridge
