River Description:

This river has smelly brown water, but so does its cousin to the North the world renowned and super hair run of West Knoxville the Mighty Mighty Beaver.

The difference is that this one has a few rapids. The stream moves surprising well though it’s continuous Class II riffles and pretty frequent features. The scenery doesn’t hold a candle to the to that West Knoxville garden spot which the Mighty Mighty Beaver flows thru. It is in downtown Lenoir City, and is only 30 minutes away from downtown Knoxville.

It has no remote feel to it at all and it is hard to believe its only 15 minutes away from the Mighty Mighty Beaver and the extreme remote feeling you get on the desolate and isolated Mighty Mighty Beaver. I am more than sure the water quality sucks but probably not as bad as the thick brown churning water boiling mass of its nearest mother stream the Mighty Mighty Beaver.

The watershed at the put-in is well as best as we could figure  is 2.7895E2 in the area squared to the minus root value give or take. This is pretty surprising and fairly sizable considering the Mighty Mighty Beaver is taking so much water. You can run it anytime but it requires an inch of rain in Lenior City. Without rain I guess you could still run it. I guess

Here is a picture of the Church at the put-in.

After diligent work and negotiations we now have public access...at the park.

This rapid is right off the bat at the put-in...STAY SHARP!

This is a atypical rapid on Town Creek which isn't to be confused with the Mighty Mighty Beaver.

This is the Boogie Water Section.

You need to scout this one.

Scenery abounds here...almost a Garden of Eden.

As always safety is adamant when it comes to being on the creeks. We now have a guardrail to help protect you from falling in this monster.

Think fast because on Town it keeps coming at you. Hard to believe its so close to the Mighty Mighty Beaver.

You can scout this world class rapid from the walking track.

This is the biggest drop on Town Creek

Class II Hell...Class II Hell for sure. Many walk this one.

Keeper holes abound and keep the paddler on his toes, here you have another scouting guardrail to protect you.

The scenery never stops on Town...hard to believe really...

Finally it starts to mellow it out.

As with any creek you need to watch out for strainers.

Here is your take-out

Remember this satellite dish for your landmark at the take-out, take out on river left.

If it gets too tough you can always use the portage trail.
