Overview:
For the most part this is just an alternative put-in for the Daddy's Creek Canyon section.
It's rapid quality is okay, and its a nice change of pace for a put-in. Also it cuts out the
flat water section of Daddy's. The tiny micro gorge is actually very pretty, enough to where
you want to slow down and take it all in. It's as pretty as DuskinCreek and Falling Water's gorges.
The problem with Yellow Creek, is the trees. It can be hit and miss if there is a problem.
It's nice to have high water event days to keep it flushed out. During drought years you
need to be careful, or just wait for a big rain event to clear it out.
If you are in a hurry, you are better off paddling the regular Daddy's Creek put-in section.
This one can add some time to your day. We thought this would be a quicker way to the canyon.
It's not. If you have the time, and it has the water, this is the better put-in, if you want
just a little bit more creekin added in to your day.
The Creek:
Like most Obed-Emory streams it starts off with some fairly straight forward Class II-III
rapids. After this you will come to the first major rapid that is about a five foot drop.
Let this drop be your benchmark. It's time to start scouting. First and foremost this section
holds wood. The drops are straight forward, and by checking for wood, you will see the rapids.
This will be the toughest section of this creek, a descent Class IV appears. Just scout it and
run, nothing is epic here.
From here the creek opens up with some eddy hopping Class III fun, from here it picks up the
pace. Here you will start to enter the undercut section of Yellow, nothing really epic. You
just to read the water and take your lines.
After the undercut section, the river peters out , and before long you will find yourself
hitting Daddy's Creek, and in about a half mile you will be seeing the Rattlesnake section
of Daddy's Creek Canyon.
